After being dumped by his boyfriend, a writer decides to return to the countryside. He rents a house and spends his days, weeks and months growing pumpkins, lettuce and chicory, fighting weeds and ants, raising chickens, while trying to understand the reasons why he was rejected and recalling the story of his ancestors, who came from Piedmont at the beginning of the twentieth century. ‘Telling a story changes the person who tells it’, says the protagonist of this novel, who sees writing as a way of tying himself to life. But reading it also changes us, it makes us feel that even in the worst moments there is a land on which we can rest our feet and bend down to find peace and a literature to which we can entrust ourselves in order to reconcile with ourselves.
