Cathedral. Raymond Carver.

Personal Project. 2019.

Men and women living together because they think they love each other, logistical issues. Children with ordinary but creepy faces. Ten-foot-tall ostriches as pets in residential gardens. Birthday cakes ordered for no one. Conversations with strangers on trains going nowhere. The urban and the domestic as an ecosystem that at first glance would seem innocent, like any sleeping creature. The characters in Raymond Carver’s stories are the perfect definition of unpredictability. They walk slowly, they put on their coats, they greet their neighbours, they fill up their petrol or their fridges, and when they can turn to look you in the eye, in a gesture as nondescript as it is impeccable, it would seem that, as they open their mouths to say ‘hello’, a row of fangs could devour you mercilessly and with infinite torment.
